Bolsa blends the world of high-fashion jewelry and handbags with the everyday luxury only Kalco can offer. Each fashionable pendant is handblown by our glass artisans to create a bold, faceted design offered in rich hues of blue, magenta, and bronze, or in a classic white ombre for a timeless look.

Designed with customization in mind, each unique single pendant is combined into a larger multi-pendant statement piece. Through Kalco's Customs services we also allow you to mix and match pendant shades, colors, and pairings to design a one-of-a-kind multi-pendant design that is completely unique to your space.

Meet the Designer Behind Bolsa

Takayuki "Taka" Ishii

An award-winning designer and Pratt Institute graduate, Taka draws from jewelry, sculpture, and nature to give lighting a reason to exist. Kalco's Redding 5 Light Chandelier won the Better Homes & Gardens Product Design Award in 2022.

Design Inspiration

Bolsa's designer, Taka Ishii, wanted to create a lighting piece that was inspired by the way many interior designers describe lighting as "the jewelry of the space." Taka wanted to "literally take jewelry as a fashion statement and turn it into a decorative fixture." This informed the collection's signature handbag design for each of the 3 pendant designs. Beyond the fixture's exceptional faceted glass shape, Taka added an ombre paint finish to make the fixture stand out and be a statement piece. Thanks to the unique ombre coloring where the top of the fixture is darker than the bottom, the color of the shade does not cast color onto the floor.

Taka's fashion statement design inspiration extends to the details of Bolsa's hanging hardware. Each Bolsa pendant is connected to its canopy with a distinctive diamond-shaped chain in a rich Winter Brass finish. Each chain link is laser cut to create a unique hanging design element that sets this collection apart.

Handcrafted Process

The Bolsa collection's unique shape is made possible by our extensive experience working with handblown glass. Glass artisans blow each pendant by hand to create Bolsa's unique faceted sides and shapes. Each pendant goes through an intricate process, carefully refining the glass into the handbag-inspired shape that gives Bolsa its balance of high fashion and everyday luxury.
